Concentric Reducer & Eccentric Reducer
Steel Pipe reducers are one of the many types of fitting that can be used to control the flow within a piping system. The reducer helps in meeting the existing piping of varied sizes or hydraulic flow of the piping systems. Pipe reducers are widely available in a variety of materials as per the demands of industries and also available in many dimensions.
1. Steel Pipe Reducer
A pipe reducer is a pipe fitting that is used in the pipelines to reduce its size from large to small-bore in accordance with the inner diameter. It reduces the size of the pipe in the pipe system, from one size to another. Pipe reducers may frequently be used to connect pipes of different sizes.
In a piping system, there are two major types of reducers: concentric reducers and eccentric reducers.
2. Types of Pipe Reducer
The concentric reducer means the pipes have matched center lines, and the eccentric reducer has mis-matched center lines. Both of these have a consequence regarding flow.
Concentric Reducers are useful to connect pipes as well as tubes on the same axis.
The concentric reducers are able to connect pipes of varying size, but it has a common centreline. This type of reducer offers an in-line conical passage between different dimensional pressurized pipes. These concentric reducers are available in the seamless and welded type of construction.
Unlike concentric reducers, Eccentric reducers have a offset center line.
An eccentric reducer type of pipe fitting is produced with the slighter outlet off center to the bigger end. Eccentric reducers are frequently used to avoid trapping air within the system, so they are often used when both air and liquids may be flowing together. This eccentric pipe reducers are making the simple connection between pipes of different sizes.

5. Concentric Reducer VS Eccentric Reducer
- Concentric reducers change kindly between the pump and piping.
- Concentric reducers help to convey slurries and abrasive fluids.
- Concentric reducers are useful to use in operations where corrosion is present.
- Concentric reducers are beneficial to use where different ratings and to wear protection is required in conveying between flanges or pipes.
- Concentric reducers are perfectly suitable to use in the exclusion of the pump.
- Eccentric reducers help to connect big pipes with small pipes.
- Eccentric reducers decrease noise and vibration.
- Eccentric reducers require minimum setting up space.
- Eccentric reducers can also absorb noise that is created by pipe walls and fluid tolerated.
- Eccentric reducers have minimum turbulence entrapment.
- Eccentric reducers are utilized with the flat side up in pump pressure to minimize cavitation.
