Steel Pipe Tee Fitting

Steel Pipe Tees are generally used to combine or split a fluid flow. A Steel Pipe Tee is a pipe fitting that is shaped like a “T” and has two outlets at 90 degree to the single inlet connection. It is available in socket weld tee, butt weld tee, and screwed tee. We can also fabricate other forms according to the demands of the customers.

1. Steel Pipe Tee Standards

Tee Fittings are normally produced by forging or welding. Steel pipe Tee standards are normally designed based on ASME/ANSI B16.9 or ASME/ANSI B16.11.

ASME B16.9: Factory-Made Wrought Steel Buttwelding Fittings

ASME B16.11-Forged Fittings, Socket-Welding, and Threaded

2. Equal Tee & Reducing Tees

The shapes of Steel Pipe Tee, there are two types:

Equal tee has inlets and outlets of the same size. Also called Straight Tee.
Steel Equal Tee Description is usually as below:
4” Tee BW ASME B16.9 ASTM A234 GR. WPB SMLS Schedule STD

Reducing Tees have inlets and outlets of differing sizes, the smaller ones typically being at 90 degrees to the two larger ones.
Steel Reducing Tee is usually described as :
NPS diameters in 4”x 4” x 3” Tee BW ASME B16.9 ASTM A234 GR. WPB SMLS Schedule 80

3. Butt Weld Tee & Socket Weld Tee & Threaded Tee

According to the end connections, Steel Pipe Tees are classified as:
Butt Weld Tee
Socket Weld Tee
Threaded Tee

3.1 Butt Weld Tee

Buttweld tee is divided into seamless cold-drawn tee and seam welding tee in the production process. The dimensional standard for the butt welding pipe tees is ASME/ANSI B16.9, these are available from 1/2″ through 48″, including equal tee and reducing tee.

It is widely used in the petroleum, Oil & gas industry, Chemical industry, Marine industry, Pipeline engineering, and Power industry.

Standard: ASME B 16.9, ASME B36.19
Size Range: 3/4” to 48” / DN20 to DN1200
Thickness: Sch 10s, 20, STD, 40, 80, 100, 120, 140, 160, XXS
Form: Seamless or Welded
Surface: Pickling and Solution Heat Treatment.

Socket weld tee has a trapezoidal area where the pipe can insert into the tee branch and welded together. It is commonly used in small diameter systems.

Socket weld tee is a kind of high-pressure pipe connection fitting. The pressure rating is 3000lb, 6000lb, and 9000lb. It is usually used for 4 inches or below.

Size: 1/8”, 1/4”, 3/8”, 1/2”, 3/4”, 1”, 1 1/4”, 1 1/2”, 2”, 2 1/2”, 3”, 4”
Standard: ASME B16.11 & BS3799
Pressure Rating: Class 3000, 6000, 9000
Surface: Anti-rust Oil or Galvanized.

In the manufacturing process, threaded tee has forging process. Forging is formed by heating forging with ingots or round bars, then turning on a lathe to process threads.

The threaded tees are in same standard ASME B16.11. The thread type is usually NPT, PT, FNPT, BSPP and BSPT.

Standard: ASME/ANSI B16.11, BS3799
Size: 1/8″, 1/4″, 3/8″, 1/2″, 3/4″, 1″, 1 1/4″, 1 1/2″, 2″, 2 1/2″, 3″, 4″
Pressure Ratings: Class 2000, 3000, 6000
Thread Type: PF, PT, NPT, BSPP, BSPT
Surface: Anti-rust Oil or Galvanized.
